I have tried them twice,,
Neither of them even made it out of the quarenteen tank..
They seem to be more disease prone than other tangs..
I would reccomend skipping it...

is the atlantic blue tang the same as the blue tang, is it yellow as a juevenile and turns blue as it grows?

The one in the lfs is a light blue color with a yellow tail. The whole body is blue except for the tail.

From the info that i have read, it looks like they are generally peaceful fish. I did read a site that said they were not that hardy. as a juvie they are yellowish and then they turn blue as they get older. as they are young they are also a little territorial and will fin nip everyonce in a while. You said that the one at the LFS was blue so that means that it is not a juvie any more so it would probably not pick on the other fish, if i were you and it was at a decent price i would go for it.

DANG IT PEOPLE. I wanted to get my Blue Hippo Tang today. But, now, with all the "disease talk" I am skeered. Thanks a lot. :D :D

hairtrigger, a good idea, have the LFS put it on hold for a couple of days if they will do this, then watch it as much as you can over the course of a few days...watch it eat, make sure he's active and doesnt seem sick...after doing this it won't garantee that the fish will not be prone to sickness but it'll sure give you an idea of what you're up against, and hopefully in the end will provide you with a healthy fish...

IME, atlantic blues are bad news. i had one once(notice i said once). he ate the fins off all my fish, and stressed out almost every coral in the tank. to make a long story short, it too two weeks to catch, but it was a good day after i got rid of it. i will NEVER get one again(even if you paid me), nor will i reccomend them to anybody. well, i see you got yours already(39.99 is alot too, around here they are 15-20 dollars) so good luck! they are quick, so it will be pretty hard to catch when you want to get rid of it.;)

Around here you could not even buy a yellow tang for 15-20 dollars. Average price 30-40 dollars.
Thanks for the info guys.
