ATS Sump Design. Need thoughts/opinions.

In my original design, I had the water gently sliding off the scrubber into the water with no splash. Now that I built it that way, I recommend a slight splash. Also, In my original design, I was thinking that if the power ever went out, the scrubber could be at least partially submerged and able to survive. However, now that i have seen it like this in operation, I am reconsidering that design.
Notice that in the redesign, the water flows off of the screen and does drop to the water in the sump. The overflow pipe on the far right is also partially submerged into the water, and preventing a lot of splash/salt creep. The scrubber is ran off of the main return pump. What isn't depicted is a union so that the pipe and screen is easily removable.

Alright. So, I went back to the drawing board about this ATS sump design and wanted to go verticle this next time. I took out that pane of glass and I am going to leave the sump completely barren. No sand, no live rock rubble etc. This way, if something goes down the overflow it will be able to get sucked right back up into the display tank. No live rock rubble to collect detritus.
The verticle ATS will be 6" wide by 8" long, which is enough to filter a 48 gallon tank - which is absolutely plenty. The bulbs I am using are soft white 43 watt bulbs, (under $3) I'm going to be experimenting with these bulbs because they are very bright and they are cheap to replace. I still need to buy a light timer, but I'll pick it up later when my whole system is up and going.
Here is a pic of what I got done in the hour that I was able to work on the tank this evening:

The PVC in the middle of the sump is all part of the ATS. The only way I was able to fit in a 6" screen was to put an elbow at the end. I was using all recycled PVC that I had from other stuff that I was doing. I have to order a few things on a website and will be ordering a pump for it soon. It should be arriving in a couple of weeks. Yeah, I know the screen isn't fixed on there yet, lol. I haven't cut the slot yet, but there is no rush because I don't even have the pump for it yet.
The lights are 4 1/2" away from the screen. SantaMonica said that as long as the bulbs were between 4" and 6" from the screen that it would be just fine. Plus, I am using a higher wattage bulb anyway, so I need the extra room.
Keep in mind people - this is the ONLY form of filtration that I will have on my reef. I'm putting it to the test!
