I need to find a good home for a velvet damsel. Some call them neon damsels. Any ideas. I live in Bryan.
Thanks,
KDS

I live in Bryan but does it need a temporary or permanent home? My tank has been cycling for two weeks, I'm not sure if my tank is safe or not. I wouldnt mind having him as a first fish.

won't your LFS take it?
If not send it up here lol.
Is it blue or blackish brown?
If it's the blackish brown it's the Blue Velvet Damselfish
(Paraglyphidodon oxyodon)
If it's the bluer looking one then it's the Neon Damsel - Pomacentrus alleni

Yes if he is healthy, come to Houston. There is a fish store called Aquarium World that has a large saltwater pond. They take healthy damsel donations. I dropped my velvet damsel off last week to make room for my new majestic angelfish....Actually I was afraid he might nip at his fins. I really miss him. He was my favorite fish. I go to visit him and he seems happy in the thousand plus gallons. Lesley

I think I might want him. Hopefully my tank is safe. And about Aquarium World in Houston, I love that place! They have the biggest tank I ve ever seen (we're talking 20,000 gal +). That tank you can literally scuba dive in and I've never seen Yellow Tangs so big in my life. If any one goes to Houston hit that store up because its the closest to an aquarium Houston has. I cant believe the 4th largest city in America doesnt have a decent aquarium like Baltimore's or Philly's.

We have one at Moody Gardens 50 miles away down in Galveston. Lesley

Thanks for the fish. I just but him in, and he just dropped to the bottom corner, I got worried. But all of a sudden he saw all the pods on the glass and now he is in a feedy frenzy. Maybe I wont have to feed him for a couple of days with the 1000 + pods I have. Thanks again for my first fish.

Yeah - and there's Tilman's(sp?) place downtown, but I wouldn't waste your time. Haven't been to the one at Moody yet but hope to soon. Until I do - for my money and time - I'd check out the Aquarium in New Orleans - pretty cool and not too far away.
Cool TexAg - Adios Peppy - hope you like your new home!!

Hey! Way to diss my workplace :( Sure, we have growing pains, and trying to 'work' with some aquarists with 'differing opinions' (IMHO) and horrible, nearly unworkable filtration designs...and it isn't a cheap place...but not "waste your time?" It is a unique concept, IMO.
And I previously worked at Aquarium World. The tank is 40,000g and was the largest local tank until the Kemah Aquarium restaurant and Moody Gardens. They will take damsel donations, but you may want to call ahead to make sure.

Oops - sorry Ophiura. I do have to give it the benifit of the doubt because I did go close to the grand opening and may have just been seeing the "growing pains"
BUT - you do have to admit it's a little pricy for what you get to see and the Disney atmosphere is not my thing. But hey - thats Tilman's thing and he's filthy rich and i'm not. So - there ya go. My $.02
Now working there on the other hand - might be pretty cool.:)
