ATTML question 4 ya

Or anyone else who owns a diamond watchman goby. I just wondered if they try to burrow under the rocks and such. I was thinking gobies did, but sometimes I get my fish mixed up. Also do they hide alot? Thanks, Melissa

Melissa,
Yes, my Goby dug himself a little cave about 10 minutes after I brought him home and he pretty much sticks to it. He remodels it everynight before bed but other than that he sticks to sifting. He doesn't hide very much but he does keep the whole tank clean so he will get into the rock work and do some cleaning in there sometimes.

Thanks for the quick response. I was just worried about it burrowing under the rocks and causing a rockslide. If it just makes a small space for itself than I feel more comfortable with adding one. I have a chromis that makes its caves also and that hasn't been a problem. My rocks are stable, but I don't want anything that will try to get under them literally, cause I am sure that will cause problems. What size tank do you have? I have a 75. Thanks again :D

My guy has a pretty deep cave but if your rocks are secure you should be fine. When I set up my rocks I burrowed them in the sand into the sand all of the way down to the bottom glass so they were pretty stable. He digs down to right up against the rock. As you can see from this pic his hole goes down in there a ways. As I said in an earlier post he is still one of my favorite fish despite a little messiness from the sand he kicks around!

Ok, I think I am safe as long as it doesn't bulldoze my rocks. Like I said I am stable, but I seen others posts where they put, for example, pvc piping under the rocks. Well I did what you did, so I again, feel better. Thank you. Gonna try and get my LFS to get one for me (got a little pull there), should I be concerned with other gobies that closely resemble the diamond watchman? I only say this b/c the owner (which knows nothing) ordered in a lawnmower blenny for me and not knowing any better I bought it (looked like one to me)

long story short, it wasnt a LMB, looked like it though, and was heck on my reef, returned to LFS. Thanks again.

I don't know that much about the others that closely resemble this guy! I know there is a Watchman Spotted Goby and a Yellow Watchman Goby but I am unsure if they have any differences in their behavior. You may want to do a search on the to see if you can find more info. Sorry I don't have more info on them for you! Take care!

Golden headed sleeper goby is pretty close behavior wise. I had one for a while it was difficult to keep feed he wouldn't take any food so he got pretty skinny. But you have a bigger tank so maybe you'd have better luck. They turn your substrate over quite a bit.
I bought a diamond sleeper goby and hes eats blood worms and has stayed healthy. It burrows quite a bit, cool to watch.
I would familiarize your self with pictures of gobies and their common names. It seems that some of these little buggers have 4-5 common names. It can be real confusing. Good luck
