But that spot on the side leads me to think it is a Pseudoanthias plerotania (female) Square Spot Anthias

Yep, I've had it ID'd as both a female Lyretail AND Squarespot with a slight majority leaning toward Lyretail. Confusing still but better than the years of "P. damdifIno" that I had been getting.
