I like the new rules for the most part. I was at the Rangers/Tampa Bay game the other night when the Lightning won in overtime and I was really hoping for a shootout. The amount of penalties has gone down because the players have started to adapt to the new rules. I was a little suspect early in the season due to the amount of power plays but it seems to be working out.
On the other hand, I caught some of the Rangers/Devils game 6 from the '94 playoffs last night and I must say, I like the intensity the game was played with. Obviously it was a huge playoff game, but the 1 on 1 battles with and without the puck were awesome to watch. Players were crosschecking and slashing - not in an overly malicous way, but just enough to get under your skin. Awesome game.

im an avs fan and the new rules are just killing us. Especially since we had to trade away foote and forseberg
i dont really like the new rules either because it lets one team dominate the puck for long periods at a time since they made the nutral zone smaller. I also think the new rules are unfair to goalies its just crap. i dont watch it nearly as much as i used to.

The new rules make it exciting for most of the fans, however by winning via a shootout, your record can be decieving. For example, the Stars are 6 - 0 in the shootout. Initially, that looks pretty impressive. Until you start thinking that these six games weren't decided in regulation. or even overtime. They have played six games this season that weren't determined until either the three-man s/o or the sudden death s/o. Hmmmm. When it comes to playoff time, these teams that have become dependent on the s/o in order to secure a victory need to revamp their game plan as the s/o does not exisit in the playoffs. Enough. I feel the biggest changes have been the offside and interference changes. These are the two primary reasons the game has picked up it's pace. The rules changes are forcing teams to play a faster game in order to win. If the teams don't change, they're gonna be left behind and the scouts are gonna have alot of work ahead of them in the next few years. Good luck, welcome back Mr. Kronwall and GO RED WINGS!!!
