Hi,
Since you keep some very nice sps I thought I would ask you this question.
About a month ago my sps started to bleach out and I thought maybe the one was wild caught and didn't give too much though.... I know I know. But In the past two weeks more and more have been bleaching. So tonight I decided to check the pH which is one thing I never check, even though I dose kalk into a 29 gallon tank 24/7. Well, as you probably have guessed by now it was sky high, somewhere over 8.8 ( I don't have a pinpoint ) So I did a large water change to get it back in check and to lower the salinity which was a bit high as well.
So....this may a rhetoical question but what else can I do? I could kick myself for not checking it earlier. Is there anything else I should be looking into, like disease?
Just wanted to vent, thanks for your input.

I'd check a complete set of parameters. I had a similar problem with a few of my SPS's and it was because my mag had dropped. I'd check a Mg, Phos, Ca, Alk and while you're at it, check the nitrogen cycle parameters.
Since then I've gotten into the habit of checking most of my parameters once a week for things like Calcium and alkalinity, and I would my pH if I didn't have meters on both my tanks. I check the phos, silicates, mag, and strontium once a month, or if I notice anything not going right.
Hope that helps some.

Thanks,
I checked the N2 parameters.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5

[hr]
Alk - 10
Cal - 375
I just did a water change with IO, so don't think my trace elements are out of whack. IO is good about getting those in order.
The tank has been cloudy, which is a tell tale sign of a bad pH......I have been to busy and have neglected it, it's my own fault. When I cleaned out the limewater reseviour, there was a ton of precipitate ( white stuff ) at the bottom. I went ahead and added 3 mLs of vinegar to help bring it down. This is one of those things I should have known better.....
So you think it will work out?
