Beautiful fish. I don't have one of these fish, but I have an incredible book. Says they are not reef safe..they will eat corals and inverts. Their diet consists of fish, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp and frozen preparations. Hope this helps!

I have had a very hard time keeping these fish alive although i have read that they are one of the easier butterflies. I have tried twice and both times they died after several weeks. Both ate daily, frozen homemade food. Both were very active until they died. One died of what appeared to be an infection, but was dead with in 24 hours of first symptoms.
Good Luck, I hope you have better luck than i did :happyfish

They're fairly hardy, for a butterfly that is. I fed mine general carnivoire flake foods, and once a week he got frozen. I sold him to the zoo after about 6 years or so.

thanks guys... i saw him at my local fish store...like a month ago...and i guess no one wanted them(cuz they have two) and he looks real healthy and was always swimming all over the lfs tank. so today i go and they had him for 13.99.. pretty cheap if you ask me. so i got him...
i was sort of scared because i also have a yellow tang and they said it would harrass it but its not... my yellowtang has never been agressive towards my other fish .. it doesnt even pay attention to it.. and when it does it just follows it around.
well right now all i have is..
Algae Sheets(seaweed sheets)
Formula 2
Formula 1
frozen brine shrimp
angel formula
spectrum pellets
ocean nutrition brine shrimp plus flakes
ocean nutrition formula two flakes
will he eat any of that?
or do i need to go buy me something else?
and i also have a cleaner shrimp, red scarlet hermit crabs and two peppermint shrimp... will it bother them?
tyvm

$13.99 is really good.
He'll probably eat any of those. Brine shrimp doesn't have much nutritional value, it's really just a treat food. Think of it as giving them some candy.

No need to feed him eevrything in it's original form. Like I mentioned earlier, the food you already have is good. Prepared fish foods provide complete nutrition, clams provide clam.
