I too just hooked mine up this week. It took about 1 hour minus the hour it took to fish the hose through the wall.
I bought a kent float valve that was 17 dollars, 30 feet of 1/4" RO tubing, and a 1/4" t for my water storage (also known as a trash can).
I drilled a hole in my sump (official name for a rubbermaid container). and put the float valve in there. Make sure to use teflon tape here to prevent leaking when the float valve shuts off and puts back pressure
. I ran the 1/4" tubing in my wall downstairs to the basement where I have my RO unit. I put a T on it where I have float valve in a 55 gallon rubbermaid trash can to store my water for water changes. Turned the water on and now I have an auto-topoff.
I love it, I now don't need to have someone come over every 2 days to top-off when I'm gone. I also don't need to haul water up stairs every 2 days.
At this point I'm as automated as I can get. Calcium reactor, timer on my lights, auto-topoff...
