Auto top off

Everything is going and growing great but I'm losing about 2G of water a week and was hoping to limit puting new water in to at least once a week. I've been looking at an aqua medic niveaumat Aquarium top off and was wondering if there is any problems with these or if you have any tips for using them. Also can I add an alk buffer into the ro water so it tops it off as well?

Hi,
When using an ATO make sure you use a holding tub and not connect the freshwater line directly to the tank from your RO unit. If something goes wrong a direct line will remove all the saltwater and replace with fresh killing everything...a holding tub would only slowly drop the SG and stop when the tub runs dry, that is an easy fix....always assume the worst case and prevent it.
Don't put any additives in the holding tank, you should only dose when the tests say do so, and to just auto dump alkalinity is not a good idea. Dripping kalkwesser would keep all your parameters up and is better to do.
