yeah go to radio shack and by a little power timer. It will control when they come on and off. Or you can buy the digital timer by ice cap for alot of money.

Remember, if you have a lighting fixture that runs actinic blues and whites and are on two power sources, buy 2 timers and have the blues come on earlier than the whites and stay on longer, better for the fish.
I have 2 50/50 bulbs and 2 actinics both on 1 timer, I know that people recommend that the blues come on 1st and then the whites but since I have only 1 ballast I cannot do that. Will the lights coming on, all at the same time be bad for the fish? I really dont want to spend another $125 for a new ballast...any feed back will be great.

The easiest thing to do is just get a $5.00 timmer. I use an X10 home automation system but that would probably be overkill if all you want to do is control your tank lights.
