Going back to the discussion on how much it cost to produce avatar....no matter what it cost...it's made plenty!!
Domestic: $212,711,184
Foreign: $410,864,537
Total: $623,575,721
WOW!!

Saw it this afternoon in non-IMAX 3D. It was easily the best movie I've seen in a number of years. Visually, it was above and beyond anything thats ever been produced yet. Thought the plot was good. Yes, it was a little predictable at times, but seriously, when's the last time you saw a sci-fi pic that wasnt just a little predictable. I liken it to Dances With Wolves, but 300 years in the future on another planet.
I would say that its most definitely worth seeing in the theater in 3D rather than waiting for it on DVD or cable.

Okay I'll go..... I never go to movies.
Did someone say something about goggles/glasses or did I dream that?

I went yesterday and loved it.
You only get glasses if you watch it in 3d. I watched in in regular screen.

I'm still slightly skeptical of this movie and am still holding off, I'm not a big fan of movies without much of a plot and this one seems like it might be that type.
For those of you who saw it how would you compair it to D-9?
Btw since this is a scifi-fantasy movie I got to ask this question how upset are all of you halo fans about them FUBARing the film? I mean thats why D-9 was made cause Jackson wanted to do something sci-fi which was going to be halo but since it got jacked up he did the D-9 project.
I guess I'm upset when the greatest commercial of all time for a game is made for one that is sub-par while the movie gets cancelled, I MEAN WHAT THE CRAP I GET GOOSE-BUMPS EVERY TIME I SEE THIS, HOW CAN A MOVIE NOT GET MADE?!?!?!?!?!?
EPIC!!!

And these glasses you have to give back in right? To be worn by someone else? I'm not into wearing preworn glasses this time of year.

No Cran, the glasses are newish, you technically buy them but then they "recycle" them and clean them up and refurbish them eventually.
Oh yeah and Soviet Taco, it was better than District 9 in my opinion and D9 was epic.

Jackson wanted to work with Blomkamp, not really just make another sci-fi fantasy. Blomkamp already had made a short fim Live in Joburg which they adapted into the feature District 9
.
Halo 3 has the highest opening day record of any entertain form. September 24, 2007 Halo 3 sold 4.2 million copies and made $170 million. I think a film version would too really well
. Of course the high's of hearing a Halo film was coming being directed by PJ was pretty high, then the lows of hearing the shelving of the project, is pretty down there...
Honestly you just really can't compare the two, and it's not because D-9 cost $30mil to make and Avatar cost $237mil. They just are completely different films, even though both are technically 'sci-fi.' Avatar is a sit back and enjoy flick. Be marveled at the scenery, the realest of the real CG yet, the amazing environments.
District 9 is the sort of movie where you're bent over, elbow in knee holding your head up, thinking, trying to piece this and that together. Both are good, just what you prefer. As I eluding to in my review, the only real disappointment came from the rubber-stamp-plot....

Would they be cleanable with my own products? I'm not trusting the theater to clean them.
Just out of curiosity, what would really be that great of concern with either what's on the glasses, or what someone possibly did to the glasses?

What's on them.
*Achoo*. Rub the nose. Adjust the glasses.....
I'm not letting family get all up in my face... certainly don't want a stranger there.

Really no comparison to D9 since they are completely different types of movies. Yes, the plot in D9 was a little more original, but Avatar was a better movie.

You dont have to give them back since you pay for them via a higher ticket price. My wife and I kept ours. Even if you do give them back, they get sent back to the manufacturer, cleaned and repackaged.

Damn the theater people. I was told that you have to give the glasses back. Thanks for letting me know! Next time I'm keeping them!

Well, if you want to know what I think.
D9 was a movie actual plot, story character action etc.
Avatar was eye candy. Look what I can draw. Basically pocahontas on a moon.
Movie wise there is no reason to watch Avatar. The absolutely amazing CG and 3D makes it something you should watch in the theater(make sure you do 3d) Avatar is basically a promo for whoever did the 3D.

Awesome movie, if you ask me. Predictable, sure. Eye candy, definitely. But still worth the $17 for the non-IMAX 3D. I plan on seeing it again before it comes out to buy. The lights in our theatre never fully went off and people all around us kept getting up... very distracting.
Also, about the glasses, my fiance kept ours because she was under the impression that they could be used on the DVD when it comes out. Gotta love that woman...

geeze, this was our first trip to a movie tavern. Definitely where I'd go for a movies from this point on. 9 dollars with the 2 dollar "fee" for the 3d glasses. Big wide leather chairs, hit a button and people bring you food. IT was great. The audio was especially awesome, you could hear clinks and clanks while on the ship in various surround speakers.
