how do you get a picture that will fit the avatar?

crop, resize or post the pic and some kind soul will resize it for you...

You have to resize the picture to 100x100 pixels to fit the avatar size

you can search free software downloads. search for picture resize. many diffrent programs will be available for trial use or available as shareware.
