one of my first fish ever was a yellow tang, got it in the mid 70s and it died in 2005, during its last 2 yrs of life it was completely white. I've had several tangs that lived close to and over 20 yrs and all fade in color a few yrs before dieing.

Hmm mid seventies, we'll say 1975 (I think thats a fair assessment of "mid")... 2005 - 1975 = 30 Years

the LFS i have been going to for 8 years has a niger trigger that has been there for the whole time, and is supposedly 16 years old.

I've read naso tangs and yellow tangs can live up near 40 years.
