Putting a 14" - 16" fish in a tank that's 18" deep would be like putting you in a closet and making you live there. Would you survive?...yeah, but would you be comfortable and happy?

Well...as I said before...it's completely up to you which fish you buy.
There's very few people that would agree with what you're doing though....those who know better, anyway.

I was talking about compatibility with a coral catshark. Understand that a lot of these discussions are about opinions. AW2 has given his. Personally, I think a dogface would be ok in that tank along with the eel. A panther grouper would definitely outgrow the tank. Besides they are really ugly as adults. This is just my opinion.

A lot of people get fish and trade them when they get too large. Many object to this practice but I don't for most fish. I do have a problem with people getting large sharks, barracuda, green morays hoping to get rid of them later because it is very difficult to find an adequate home for them.

No, panthers are really ugly. I really like dogfaces... especially black ones.

How easy people turn on others, after just 10 minutes ago, begging for advice.
I dont see where jcrim has posted a "yea" or "nay" in this thread.
And, considering the fact that you havent the slightest idea what's in my tank, at the moment, you'd have no idea whether or not it was overstocked.
You post 37 "Hey, AW2, I need your help" posts and then dont take my advice. It doesnt matter to me what do or do not do...as I said, that's completely 100% up to you. But, dont ask for advice, not listen to it and then post snide remarks about the people you're begging for help.

Just My opinion but your tank is a not going to handle a panther grouper. A dog face will be ok , but not the most happiest fish.
Tanks have to be not only long but wide too. a tank can be a hundered feet long and hold a 1000 gallons but if its only a foot wide You can't house large fish in it. they have to have room to turn around. and to move FREE with out bumping into the back and front of the tank.
I fully agree with AW2 about buying fish with the idea of upgrading in the future. It's called murphys law.

Panther groupers DO NOT GROW SLOW and NO HEALTHY FISH OF ANY KIND WILL GROW TO ITS ENVIORMENT. I wish people would stop trying to pass this of as fact. A big fish that healthy will grow to be a big fish A big fish thats kept in a small of a tank will suffer and more than likely die Before it can reach its full potential.

Listen, this thread really needs to chill it a bit for note that only asking for AW2 thoughts only on this topic is wrong in the first place for any number of ideas would work here for as most of what AW2 had said is to the point and in specking wise talking long term of the fish and not just a few years only.
or not every marine hobbyists feed the same as well within nutritional foods at that so many things do come into play and a point in this can come from anyone and even a novice hobbyist who only a few years in the hobby can add to this little conversation for it all depends much on each individual marine hobbyist for i still see that the simplest things in this hobby is still this day hard for many to comprehend the aggressiveness of the fish natural backgrounds and each marine species in its own rite has some aggressive level that must be respected. And specially if one wants to be so successful in this hobby best begin looking in things in this way, for a zebra eel or SF, whichever, I wouldn't house a grouper with these eels.
See, as AW2, I too not agree with most here for the dogface will do find from juvenile for a long time if it came to when you might have to exchange it for a juvenile again but a fish that will grow 2' or more, is wasteful in getting in the first place, for within all normal happenings, this fish would grow faster then what one here said one his friends has done, for it has to be that it something was not normally done for that fish in all the right ways.
AW2 is not the only person in this hobby with prize eel(s) for there has to be so many hundreds of others for even myself, I a prize eel or two and will have more when finally my two reef tanks are running.
So in short to fish issue opinions, there be so many who can make their thoughts heard here and not just one person, what if it be only because he a large tank as I think i readied it here for that isn't a right thing to assume of for there be many with larger tanks and they fail so miserably, so will you ask all those who has a large tank? I not think you would and if it be your answer be that you would, I myself would then list your name to ones i will not further view and future threads.
