Isopods are not parasites. There are parasitic copepods, amphipods and isopods. Not all are parasitic. But if you are pulling these off of your fish then that one is definately parasitic.

I also have bunches of them on my filter cloths when I take them out to change them.(skilter 400)I think they are coming from some rock we brought home from the beach. My husband thought that because he found the rock on the beach out of the water all day that nothing could possibly be alive.WRONG, I think.A friend got some out of his tank also. These things seem to be clear w/ a black midsection. They resemble them rolly poly bugs.Gosh I wish I could find my acd see photo program so I could fix the other pics of it.

I bumped up a "Bug of the Week" thread about Cirolanid Isopods for you. I suggest you read it. You are in a real pickle without any known easy escape route.

Are these Florida / Florida live rock specific?
Wondering if persons such as myself need to worry about getting these guys (I just added some Lalo live rock)
I hear they're like something out of a science fiction movie, lightning quick killing machines

My husband brought the rock home from Peanut Island,Port of Palm Beach. He thought that because they were out of the water all day that they'd be "pest" free.
