First off, a nassarius snail is a type of whelk. Not all whelks are bad, mm'kay?
I've just bought a snail resembling the one sold here:
https://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11...08_63_4_4.html
I've found a website stating it to be a Babylonian Whelk:
http://indopacificseashells.com/buccinidae.htm
Even more information in other forums of people losing their clams to this predatory snail. Don't get me wrong, this is a big snail, about 1.5+ inches, he has got to have an appetite to match. Anyone have any experience with these snails? I hope I'm wrong about its identification but I'd hate to lose a derasa to some stupid snail...
Here's the one I've got:

I am no expert
...but I think
the welk you are talking about has the same color but a different shell shape. I do't know which is which...one has the cone shape and the other has a smouth egg shape.

ok thanks. a little more research yielded names like "butterscotch nassarius" and "orange-spotted nass." which are more commonly used. the lfs i bought it from claimed it to be a "tiger nass." and my search results got fumbled up with clam-eaters...
