backgrounds?

Looking for someone with a little experience with this. Okay so I have this corny background for my tank because for some reason when I started it up I liked that look better

Anyway, now I am wanting a solid black background for it. It is already well established and I am not sure if spray painting is such a good idea, so is there any other way. If it is going to be expensive or difficult, I don't want to do it, but if you guys know of an easy way of going about it, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

the easiest way on a established tank is to get some large sheets of black cardboard from your local craft store and some two sided tape to apply the cardboard you may also be able to find black vinyl at your LFS . I use cardboard cause its easy to replace and cheap

Don't try to paint the tank with livestock in it just not worth the risk IMO.

I know exactly how you feel. I also have to cheesy saltwater picture background. I've been looking into the black vinyl, but the cardboard may be an easier choice since my tank is nearly impossible to get at from behind.

Go to a walmart or a local auto parts store and you can find the static cling window tint. 1 roll should do fine, but the more layers you put on top of each other the darker it'll get.
Yes, I got extremely bored one day and had a roll laying around the house..lol
I wanted a rear view of the tank again one day and simply removed it.

One of my tanks is a 75 gal reef with almost 180 pounds of live rock and 100 pounds livesand and less than 3inchs between the back of the tank and the wall so moving the tank is impossible with out taking everything out

the cardboard is easy Just precut it and have a friend help you "fish" it across the back of the tank.

Cardboard is an excellent idea, thanks. It is stiff, easy to cut, cheap, and should look good. Thanks a lot.

cool idea

limo tint should work great probably two layers to get a rich black look but only if you have the room to get behind the tank and patience to apply it cool thing about static cling is you can remove it a reapply it many times.

you can also get the cardboard in a smooth shiny finish or a matt finished I find that the flat black "matt" finish gives the best effect.
