Ok i have a twelve gallon eclipse and i came home friday after school and found my anemone all shriveled up and my urchins spikes were all down and i moved them into my qt tank and they were doin fine then i did a water change and my water got all cloudy so i thought it would clear up in the morning and so i wake up to a weird noise it is my anemone bein sucked up by my filter so i get he out before he died. Then i wake up in the morning and my 12 gal. is still cloudy so i do another water change and i let it do its thing then about 9pm my dad says 2 of my fish are dead and they were my jawfish and my royal gramma and then i find my shrimp and my feather duster all dead so i got all my hermit and my snails and my tomato clown out and my tomato was in such a bad condition but he is fine now and so is my anemone and all my hermits and all the snails. I was so upset because i put alot of my money in that tank and most of that money was my lunch money so i starved all day without food.So now i am goin to do everything perfect no half a## cause i really like this hobby alot. So that was how my sucky weekend went.

at least is sounds like you learned from your mistakes. Know what went wrong and why it went wrong and do it right and take it slow next time. While your saving money to re-do your tank, read, read, read!
how many fish did you have in an 12gl tank?

So sorry... do you know what happened? How were your water parameters beforehand? I'm not a reef expert, but that seems like a big bioload for a 12 gallon?
Sorry again... this is an expensive and heartbreaking hobby sometimes.

Oh no I feel your loss
I put some anemonies in my 55g bout a year ago and only a month ofter I started the tank. A month later I removed them as they were dieing or dead already. The tank got foul smelling, cloudy and all fish died. Ammonia spiked up and pegged the test kit. It took a week for ammonia to get down and two weeks to clear up the water. Now after a year, I have an anemone which is doing fine.
As you know take your time, don't use anemonies, and let the system balance itself out. I highly recommend you add plant life if you don't already have some.
Good luck and hang in there.

That sucks dude. How long was the tank up for? As the person above me stated, thats a big bio-load for a 12. Maybe a jaw and a gramma but thats about it in my opinion. I am amazed the anemone lived through all that. I had one in a relatively new tank, 4 months old and it lived about 3 days, I have since learned to stay away from them. Hermits I have noticed will live through almost anything, blue legs and zebras anyway.

Now if you were my kid..I would buy you the stuff you needed as you have done demonstrated the strong desire to do this...but that is me.
Good luck with your new stuff...and dont feel so bad about just having hermits..I had just hermits, snails and two damsels in my 90 for several months at one point.

I'll send you a post card on fathers day for an allowance!

Asbury030,
Just keep at it. Use it as a learning experience.
