Bad advice from LFS store

Just delt a new lesson! I just moved to N. Virginia area and started up a 55 gal. with live rock and fish. Idea was to have a few mushrooms and buttons. There is only 2 LFS near me that are 26 miles away.
I visted the LFS on Friday afternoon and bought a PearlScale Butterfly. I should have listened to my spider senses which told me this might not be a good fish to put in the tank... but I listened to the owner who said the butterfly will be a good tank mate. If not I could trade hime in for another fish.
Well....the buttons are being nipped apart and the LFS said they will only grant me $8.00 credit paid $33.00 and no trades.
Although this is my fault...I really do not want to give more money to the store. Leason learned!

Bummer!
We've all been there!
The most expensive lesson to learn in this "hobby" is to research everything, don't impulse buy and never take the word of the lfs.
After all, they just want to sell their product and most
of them dont seem to be concerned about the best interest of the customer or the living thing they are selling!
Very sad if you ask me!
Just have to chock it up as a lesson learned and know better in the future! Still sorry you had to go thru it!

Did you speak with the owner when you tried to return it? I would have a fit if the owner himself told me I could trade it, and then he said no. Talk to him, explain that HE suggested it, and the HE said you can return it. Even if a regular employee said you could trade it, they should take, but he's the owner so they DEFINITELY should take it.
Tell him that there is only 1 other LFS in the area, and that you don't like the other one. Assure him that you will shop w/ him again.
Hopefully he will let you trade. Take your new fish (or put it towards something you need like snails, crabs, or dry goods like vitamins). and never go back again.
You don't have to feel guilty, because he lied 1st and tried to screww you over. Don't take no for an answer.

LFS owner did the same thing to me about a sick eel that he assured me was healthy. They will lie/ tell you anything just to make a sale, then

[hr]
you over when there is an issue.

If you strike out at the LFS on the return you may want to see if you can work a trade with someone else or try a craigs list. No sense in losing all that money. If there are only two stores 26 miles apart there may be someone else in the hobby that would welcome that fish and make a deal.
Just a thought.
