bad ballast or bad connection? or...

i have a 36 inch sun pod. It has two 150W MH bulbs and the right bulb kept cutting of multiple times during the day and would come back on. Guys were telling it was the ballast. I switch the bulbs around, the right bulb is now in the left socket and the left bulb is now in the right socket. I was very careful in doing so and made sure they were both in the socket correctly. Now neither of the two bulbs flicker on and off.
is it possible that it was a bad connection or couild it still be a bad ballast just the new but used bulb is helping out in some way? I really know nothing about this.

It was probably a bad connection. Those pressure fit sockets sometimes get a bit gunked up.
