Bad LFS Experience

I've had a sring of bad experiences at my LFS. Myself and 3 others and purchased livestock from our LFS only to have the fish within a week of purchase. I complained to the owner, not because of my loss but of the large amounts of bad fish that has been popping up. The owner told me he will not guarantee the fish and that is an industry standard and i just need to get over it. Has SWF.com spoiled me, I've never recieved a bad fish and they have a guarantee. I don't know the owners words took me by surprize and by rude he was. Anyone else care to share some thoughts on this?

I would have to agree on this one....If he gets bad stuff don't buy from him. I would also let him know that you won't buy until he changes wholesalers, tell your friends to do the same and he might get it.

Oh Trust me I do not plan on going back to that store at all. We found a awsome place in the next town over to go to! Little bit more of a drive but worth it in the end for quality. Do most stores not guarantee their live stock? I've check around and the 4 closest stores to me 2 will, 2 will not. I guess is really doesn't matter much just curious is all

None in my area offer refunds, but the key is to find a store that you can develop a reationship with and I have found it is easy to be compensated with store credit or free water.

A lot of stores don't cause in reality..how do they know what you are doing with those fish, what your tank is like, water quality, lighting....for all they know you could be throwing SW fish into a FW tank....(ya never know)
I could see their point ....some....BUT the NOT so lfs that I visit in TX has NO guarantee, but if anything happens to my fish HE replaces them for me

(I think he just wants me to come back and visit though)

Although I did get 5 new corals from trading last saturday and think I'll be getting a bunch more this Saturday.... AND I hope to order 5 - 6 aussie acans next week!
Glad I made my frag tank now :D

Wow...I didn't realize there were places that wouldn't guarantee their livestock. Both lfs within reasonable distance to me will either replace the fish or give store credit if they don't have another available if something happens within 2 weeks of purchase. One store requires proof of demise (ie bring in the dead fish), the other requires proof of demise and a water sample.
Glad you were able to find a better lfs in your area. The attitude of the owner and the obvious poor quality of livestock would definitley point me in the direction of no longer returning to that store.

It goes both ways...all I ever got was free mushrooms, water and an anemone (not that I'm complaining ;) ). My husband got a free wrasse and hammer coral. Of course that store owner happens to be a girl lol.

Wow, everywhere here.. the second the bag is in your hands that's it.. no guarentee.
