and SE halides arent going anywhere either. Phased out by who, entry level fixtures which have already phased them out a long time ago. High end reflectors (lumenmax elite, lumenarc, lumenbright ect) out number DE choises 5:1 and there is NO broader selection of choices than SE 250w bulbs. You think phoenix introduced SE bulbs just to be banished in a few years? Horticulture anyone? Halides and SE are going nowhere.
did he tell you cars would all have to be electric in 10yrs too.

I had a LFS guy try and sell me a new tank, he insisted mine was no good because it had been cleaned on the OUTSIDE with glass cleaner.

LED's shimmer more than halides because they are more narrowly focused.
With the advances in fluorescent for what is called high bay lighting which is the predominate use for Halides, their days are numbered whether the EPA or lack of demand deals the death blow. The EPA has already set the demise of light bulb in place.
The Aquarium industry makes up such a small part of the overall lighting industry with no other commercial demand the manufactures will drop the product. I would expect the people who market the lamps for the aquarium trade will have the foresight to order a large stock before production is halted but the prices will get ugly. Keep your ear to the ground and be ready to stock up.
