BAD TEST KIT

Well, remember that my nitrate level was about 80-160+. I did water changes daily until it dropped down which was 4 days. Then, it slowly went back up. I tested my other tank and the nitrate level was 160 so I did a 40% water change and it is still about 80. I decided to take a sample to the lfs to test and their test was 0. I made them test again using another kit and it too was 0 so, my water was 0 all along. Well I have to say that I am no longer afraid of water changes. Whew!!!!!

Just curious ...what kind of test kit were you using to get bad results
I used saltwater master test kit from american pharmicitucials when I first started and over the first 2 months found them to be in-accurate...now use only salifert for all tests and have good results as well as faith in them

Salifert is my choice for most tests.

I was using the saltwater Master kit. That is the only kit my lfs carries. I will look around.

Hey playtime, how is your hippo tang doing? Just curious....I would like to try one in my 55gal reef, of course only until it gets bigger.

i am sorry to say that he passed away. I was so depressed for days. Our power went out and came back on 3 times in one day (I live in California) and when I woke up the next morning, he had ich. I did put him in the hospital tank but it was too late. Tangs are ich magnets and due to the stress of the day, he developed ich and there was nothing I could do. I would love to try again when I get a bigger tank. ( and I WILL get a bigger tank). The Hippo Tang is still my very favorite fish and I wont be satisfied until I get one. I read somewhere that The Hippo tang is the bluest thing on earth. You should get one provided your other fishies are nice (compatable). Think about it.

I have the same test kit and it is accurate. It is most likely the one you baught. The saltwater master test kit has the four basics and I also have and extra nitrate test kit from the MarineEnterprises international,inc. Both the Master test kit and the extra one reveal the nitrate is 0.
