bad worms?

Hey everyone I've got a worm question. About a month ago I noticed that there were some small worms crawling around on my lr and sometimes creeping onto the ls. They vary in size, but an average one is about an inch long. And their coloration is as follows: either the front half is orange/rust colored and the back half is black/brown, or the coloration is broken up into 3rds orange/black/orange. They also have what looks to be small tufts (of hair?) in rows down their back on the left and right sides of their midline. Anyone know what these critters are? I plan on getting some zoos, shrooms, leathers, etc. but don't want to add them if these worms are going to damage them. Sorry I don't have a picture.

Do a search for peanut worm and bristle worm...see if you can identify.

Thanks for the tip. I found a thread where viper_930 posted a pic of what I have and he says it's a bristle worm. Good enough for me :happy:

Is there any reason for wanting to get rid of them? I didn't think they harmful. Seems like they're just another part of the clean up crew.

You dont have to rid them from your tank. It is up to you if you want them or not.

Yep, bristles worms. No need to rid them unless they get too big, which is kind of a rare occurence. They are a great addition to the clean up crew (usually free also), savanging for dead or decaying "tankmates" and uneaten food, wont go after anything healthy. Just be careful when moving LR, you dont want the bristles broken off in your fingers. It's not life threatening, just a PIA (like a bad splinter). HTH
