Why do you say this Journeyman? Inquisitive minds need to know what you are seeing and hearing that cause you to make this statement.
Nothing I'm seeing on the ground over here, just what I've been reading plus the recent ocupation of Georgia by the Soviets.
Russian officials have been quoted as saying, at seperate times;
*"The worst mistake Russia made was letting the Soviet Union fall apart. We need the satelite countries for our national security"
*"We need to control the Middle East for our National interest"
*"We reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in a preemptive strike for our national interest".
Those aren't verbatim, but close as I can remember off the top of my head.

Forget Iran, Moscow will invade Iraq as soon as soon as we leave...
I think Russia will let Iran invade as an ally, making a deal for oil. This would give Russia a presence in Iraq without officially being there. After their bout with Afghanistan, the russkies may be a bit gun shy where occupation is concerned. Turn Iran into a puppet and let them take most of the heat.

Quite possibly.
I suspect, however, they will work to destablize Turkey and come straight south through Georgia.
As long as Turkey and Georgia stand Russia can't cut off the flow of gas and oil through the pipelines heading into Eastern Europe.

I know that we (US troops) have worked extensively with the Iraqi police force, but is their military coming along as well. Could they even begin to defend themselves against an attack from any of the other Arab nations. Like the attacks that occured after Israel was reestablished. At some point we do need to let them have full control of thier nation.
Gary Sinise has a lot of good things to say about Iraq's progress. I wish more people would show the world what incredible things have been done there.
Is there anything you can tell us as far as daily life there.
Are people getting along?
Is life fairly normal considering what these people have had to deal with?
Are kids going to school?

Then it's time to bring our folks out. We are done... Is this the VICTORY everyone was talking about we needed before a pullout?
Keep in mind that the Iraqi's still don't have any war equipment like jets, helo's, tanks, artillery, boats, etc. The Iraqi's can have all the infantry, but won't do well without those supporting elements. Iran would roll all over them. So, we can pull back on the infantry, like the 2 Brigades coming home, but supporting units will be there a while.
