Bak-Pak BioBale

I use the Cyclone BAK-PAK 2 Protein Skimmer made by CPR and it has BioBale in it. I was wondering how often people clean theirs out?

I don't do it very often, because my nitrates have never really been a problem (knock on wood), but it looks pretty dirty sometimes. I think most of it is just sand tossed up by my always digging pistol shrimp, but I just thought I would see what other people are doing.

I took mine out, but it certainly won't hurt to rinse it in SALTWATER, and only saltwater, this will keep the bacteria alive but get rid of the crud.

I took mine out too, but I would say rinse it monthly in removed tank after after a H20 change and more often if your nitrates ever rise.

i also have the unit.
Isnt that another type of filtration? Why would u take out the bio bale?
