Bakpak powerhead

The powerhead that came with the bakpak skimmer has no prefilter on it. Should I worry about anything like my small sexy shrimp or something gettting sucked in? It is 200 gph. I tried putting a sponge over the opening but it slowed the water flow a noticible bit.

i've got one and no problems with the rio 600. it's not that strong of a pump.

i would disagree i just bought a 6 line wrasse that i found the next day half way sticking out of the rio 600 dead soooo i am looking into buying the bbx for my bak pak 2r

Maybe the wrasse was dead before getting stuck in the powerhead? I would expect that it would be strong enough to fight the current of the powerhead.

i should have mentioned that i do have the bbx. OOPS. but really, it's not a very strong pump, imo.

also the skimmer definitely slows the flow on that rio.
