The Cyclone BAK-PAKsm 2 Bio-Filter is the second generation external, hang on the back, combination Protein Skimmer and Biological Filtration unit from CPR. The Bak-Paksm 2, like the original, is designed for tank sizes up to 60 gallons, but multiple units may be used for larger aquariums. Water first enters the Protein Skimmer column from the aquarium. It then flows through the biological chamber filled with Bio-Baletm filtration media before returning to the aquarium.
The Protein Skimmer is driven by a Rio 600 with the “Rejuvenation System” modification which mixes air and water before it is drawn through the impeller and broken up into tiny bubbles. Bubble dwell time is increased by the counter-current flow in the skimmer column. The quality of the foam collected can be controlled by raising and lowering the collection cup.
To set up the Bak-Paksm 2, hang the unit behind the aquarium and plug in— that’s it. New improved design incorporates an easy to clean intake tube and an enclosed, directional outflow to reduce salt splash and micro-bubbles entering into tank. The new design also uses a smoke colored break-resistant collection cup.
Body Size: 7.5" wide, 3" deep, 17.5" height
i was doing some research and i saw this. it says its a combination of a protein skimmer and a biological filtration unit from CPR
and from my earlier threads i decided against one but when i saw this i though wow added filtration and a protein skimmer
so i guess my question is, if i got this would i be able to get live rock plus the bonus of added filtration for 140$

no, I don't believe, normally the bio they refer to in filters is little plastic or foam balls, which trap the detritus, not lr, bakpaks do make a decent skimmer for your size system, but my pref would be to get it without the media and just use it for skimming, the balls can be used depending on your pref, they create more work than lr
I admit from my posts, I sound partial to lr, but the system we had without it was semi healthy, fish had no problems, but was much more work. ubstable. and much slower going, not to mention, it can be great decoration. shelter. and a base for a reef with corals

I have a cpr backpack on my FO tank. It works well. The biofiltration is the plastic ribbon in the return section of the unit. Bacteria latches on to the ribbon and grows there, creating the bio-filtration. They also make a reef ready skimmer, the backback 2R. This has no ribbon in it, and added baffles to prevent micro bubbles from going back into the tank. They cost about the same, if not exact. Like I said I have on and love it. If I ever want to change my FO to another reef, I'll just pull out the ribbon and put a piece of sponge in to stop the micro bubbles. I have also had good experiences with CPR customer service.
A good skimmer and lot's of LR is hard to beat for filtration. IMO
