Banana wrasse

Hey I was thinking about adding a banana wrasse to my 150 agg. I have heard they ship and acclimate poorly has anyone heard anything about them? Does anyone currently have one? Thanks.

There are a couple that are sometimes referred to as "Banana Wrasse", which is why I prefer Sunset Wrasse for Thalassoma lutescens which I am guessing you are referring to as that is the one more appropriate to this forum.
This is a VERY hardy fish, borderline "bulletproof", mine was first fish in my 240, and a fantastic fish in the right setup. He is the largest fish in my tank at this point (but not for long) but is not aggressive at all. They are known as one of the least aggressive Thalassoma wrasses there is. You should have no problem with this fish being shipped. Make sure you have a cover, they are notorious "jumpers" and I would not have this fish with any slow moving fish or they may never get any food, these guys are pigs.
Beautiful, hardy, active, semi-non-agressive fish...One of my favorites.

Here is mine, he is pushing 6 inches now.

Yeah the one I was thinking is aka the sunset. Yours is a beaut by the way. That is good news because I really like the way they look and act from what I have read. Would a dogface count as a slow moving fish? The tankmates would be dogface, niger trig, picasso trig, coral beauty, and emperor angel and the wrasse would complete the tank. Thanks again.

Puffers are piggies too, but you may need to tong feed the Puffer a little, in my previous tank my Lunare would sneak in and steal half a piece of table shrimp intended for the puffer(for example) and take off with "Puffy" in chase. He and my Huma used to try to steal food right out of his mouth
...All in all your stock list would be great with a Sunset Wrasse

Ya my Tusk will try to steal food from my puffer if its hanging out the puffers mouth. Then he runs and hides to eat heh.

Sorry to Hijack, but figured it was better than another Sunset/Banana Post.
My LFS has one in on a trade in that is gourgous and wants $100. Will these guys go for eyeballs like the Lunars?
And would one work in a tank with a Tusk and Red Coris Wrasse established?

I'd say it will work. My Goldbar and Tusk did fine together, even in a little 55gal QT. I've also yet to read a thread on an aggressive Red Coris. I also am starting to think most of the horror stories from Lunares, come from people buying already big adult Lunares, who never adjusted to captive life, then stuck new fish with them.

I like your chances Harley, aggression-wise mine is nothing like my Lunare I had in my previous tank. The only fish he ever bothers is my Harlequin Tusk and that is a half hearted chase once in a great while over food. My Lunare was a nasty little bugger constantly wrestling with my Niger and trying to pick fights with my Naso. I think the fact that your Harlequin is established is better.....My Sunsets only real concern in life is when will lunch and dinner be served.....Fantastic, entertaining, stunningly georgous fish.
As to how the Coris well treat him, I of course have no idea.

So far at 7-8" my Coris is a push over and doesn't bother anyone. He's too busy flipping shells looking for a meal. I swear that is one curious lil bugger.
I just can't decide if I want a Green Bird or a Banana Wrasse as my last wrasse. The Broomtail is gourgous but just afraid as he gets bigger he will be a real problem, as he eats with the gusto and attitiude of a Grouper. So I will be selling him soon as I'm afraid he will upset the balance of the tank too much in time.

I am having a really difficult time finding one of these guys for sale. The only one I hsve seen is on another site but is almost 7 inches long so he would be at least 3 inches bigger than his tankmates which I would imagine could cause some problems. Any suggestions? I live in se ga about an hour from jax if anyone has seen any at an lfs in that area. Thanks

I think a lot of online stores keep their inventory light until after x-mas, shipping is a challenge for them, I have a feeling inventories go up in January.
