I'm thinking about getting a baby one for my 60gal tank and hopfully upgrading down the road. Does anyone have any experience on them? Hardy? good eaters? etc.

Hi, are you interested in the banded shark AKA a bamboo shark?... If you are I am personally thinking about getting one, and from what I am told you need at least a 200-300 gallon tank, and they GROW pretty fast... Hope that helps! :D :p :D

I heard they could live in a 70 to 100 gal when there small, but the one's i see in the pet store just sit and don't move. This guy i know has one in his 29 gal tank and its been doing fine for about 8 months now.

That is interesting... the funny thing is, the sharks growth is probably stunted from being forced to be in a 29.... I have a 29 for my freshies (fish that is) and I don't even have 10 fish in there!! AND THEY ARE A LOT SMALLER THAN AN SHARK!!! I find it cruel to put a shark, the lord of the oceans, in a small cramp tank... I am not trying to be mean, but please see it in their point of view! :( :(

i really wanted one too...but after researching i've decided that it would be cruel to put on in anything smaller than a 300gal (although, i'm not entirly convinced that is big enough either)...
i would say pass on the shark untill you can afford him/her better accomidations...
mike.

I agree with justchillin's idea of just waiting until you can afford a larger tank... ;) here is so info on your shark!:
These are among the smallest of the aquarium suitable sharks at about 40 inches. Adult Bamboo sharks can be kept reasonably well in a 125 gallon or larger aquarium. Be sure to keep the Bamboo shark in a relatively wide tank (24") as they will need the width to move comfortably when they get older.
Distribution:
Indo-Pacific Oceans
Diet & Feeding:
Feed all kinds of large meaty foods like small pieces of fish, squid, shrimp, and live goldfish.
Aquarium Behavior:
Aggressive towards anything small enough to fit in its mouth.
Inverbrate compatibility:
Not recommended, will eat shrimp and mussells, and destructive to corals with age. Aliases:
Banded Cat Shark
Length:
1000mm/40" (wild), 1000mm/40" (aquarium)
Temperature:
78°F - 81°F
Salinity:
1.021 to 1.023
HOPE YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE!
:D  :D :D  :D

I just bought a banded cat shark about a month ago and they said he wasn't eating my home town fish place said he never had any luck with them eating. But I did he eats right out of my hand. If you can get them to eat they are pretty hardy. Mine is in a 38 gallon now but will be moved to a 155 gallon by the end of the summer. As long as they are small they can be in a smaller tank but should be moved to a larger tank as they grow. god luck let me know if we are talking about the same fish
