Bangaii babies

Two weeks before we went on vacation, my male Bangaii(Archie) started packing eggs again. For some reason he has done this several times but never got his end right. Every time he would begin eating again after just a few days. I expected the same this time around. However, the days went on and still he packed 'em. When we left on vacation I told the gal who was my tank sitter she might get to see a surprise if she looked close enough and all went well. She never did get to see them, but said he still wasn't eating. When I got home he was eating again and I thought for sure she just didn't pay close enough attention. After a few days went by I was cleaning out my OF box and much to my surprised wallah Bangaii babies. I rushed to try to remove them from the OF's and after a good look around I noticed there were several in many different places throughout my sump and fuge. Some sadly were not able to be rescued from my skimmer pump or removed from where they were. I did get 5 of them into the refugium where they have been housed now for 5 days. There is plenty for them to eat there and they are constantly on the hunt. I don't believe I'll get to save any of these 5 as I just am not set up for it at this time and don't have the time. It is possible that a couple might make it as my fuge is cramed with pods. I wont pull any cheato for a while so that they can have at it. I just wanted to share the experience and a pic of the cute little dudes. Hopefully one or 2 will survive and then Archie and Edith can go at it again. I don't want to remove those 2 from the display as they are very happy in there. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with another pair eventually and start getting some aquacultured ones out as I had previously stated.

Very cool, and congrats....

I have two Bangs, but I have never had this happen. Are Bangai like some fish where one can swithch s exes? Otherwise, maybe that's why I'm not seeing any action.

No, they can not switch ---. Either you have two juveniles who haven't reached maturity, or two females who cant mate. Likewise it could be that the conditions just aren't suitable for them to mate, or you just haven't paid close enough attention to them and they have been mating. Though apparently none have survived. If they are mature and are not mating it is sure you have 2 females. As the males will see to it there is only one of them left.

I have had one for almost a year, and he was big when I got him/her (so no juvi there). The other I added a few months back, much smaller, but not a baby by any means. They hang out together, but I have been watching them daily for the "stuffed mouth" appearance as I have read about. But I have never seen anything close. Maybe I have two of the same s ex, or maybe it just takes longer than this.

I dont doubt a few will make it. Mine had babies a few months ago and one of the babies got away and hid in rock work and ate pods for over a month and now he is out and about and eating what ever I feed the tank.

I have a pair that I had for alomost 2 years befor they started mating. Now I get 30-50 babies every 6 weeks.
So then, I must not have two males. I either have two females, or they just haven't "dated" long enough.

Yeah, isn't that cool! Plus there's no sense buying wild bangers since the wild ones do so horrible and the aquaculture ones do so well. All 5 are currently doing well in the fuge. They are actively hunting and apparently eating well. In addition to the fauna in the fuge I'm feeding cyclopeeze enriched with vita chem and soaked in garlic guard. The seem to be gobbling it right up.

So far I still have all 5. They are growing and eating well. I am feeding them vitamin enriched cyclop eeze and they tear it up. One is smaller than the other 4, but we'll see. I believe these are about 18-20 days old. I think if I remember right from Frank Marini's articles. 21 days is the critical time. We will see soon.

I swear these two are like bunnies.
He's not eating again.
I havent even figure out yet what to do with the 5 that I currently have, and they are allready ready for round 2.
I am not removing either of them from the main display. Not going to hassle them. I do want to try to come up with another mated pair though. Maybe even 3, two males and one female. But it would be several months down the road before I could even tell what I have. In the meantime,. I'm going to have to figure out what to do.

I thought you said earlier that two males will tear each other up, but now you want 3, 2 males and one female? How will that work? When will the babies be old enough to find a new home? I'd be interested.

You would need to rotate the males. One male with the female, one male in a resting tank.

If they are producing this fast (what did he say...20 days), then I can see how somebody needs a rest...
