Bangaii Cardinal Dying

Help!

I got this little guy las week. He has not eaten anything. I tried Formula one, frozen brine shrimp and flakes. I just went to get some blood worms. He doesn't like any of these. I only have two other fish: perc clown and fourline wrasse. They seem all getting along and not nipping at each other. What can I do? He looks getting thinner and thinner but still swimming around and hanging out. The guy at LFS (no the one I bought the fish from) said the cardinal may have some internal parasite.

I've bought three (each on seperate occasions) bangaii cardinal fish and all died. The guy at the LFS told me they were hardy, but they turn out to be quite the opposite. They are the only fish I've ever had a problem with. All of mine ate very well for the first week and all of sudden they stop swimming and started to lay on the sand and then they died. Like I said before they are the only fish I've ever had a problem with. I dripped acclimated all of them. It's frustating when fish just died for no apparent reason. Especially three of the same kind. I hope you have better luck in the future. :happyfish

Yup, I bought a pair of Bangaiis a while back too. I looked them over at the shop, made sure to see them eating and what they were eating. But when I got them home and acclimated 3+ hours, one died within 4 days and the other by the next day. I won't do those again...it was very sad.

I'm not sure what the key to those particular little guys is, but I know it can be done somehow. Best of luck with yours.

I used to have these guys in my tank, but some died and had to get rid of the rest because the butterflies were attacking them to death, but now the butterflies are gone, I might get'em again. They did eat for me quite well. I feel them live brine shrimp, they would go chase it and eat'em, they would also eat Marine Cuisine and blood worms too. They are nocternal feeders though, but mine eats during the day for me. I like these guys a lot and will look into getting them again once I get my tank stocked up with the rest of the live rocks and corals. :happyfish

He still has not eaten any food I put into the tank. I tried all different kind of food and even turned off the light to feed him. No luck so far but he is still hanging on. No other sign except for being kind of thin. I have not asked the LFS if they would take him back. If he is still around this weekend and still not eating, I will have to try to bring him back. It is so hard to watch him wasting away.

My opinion:
Do not buy Wild Caught Banggai Cardinalfish. The wild population is declining rapidly and many of the Wild Banggai I've heard about die shortly after being introduced to an aquarium.
As noted above, Banggai eat at dawn and dusk in the wild. You'll have your best chance of success with feeding either before the lights come on or after the lights go out while there is still ambient room lighting.
Again, do not buy a Banggai unless you know it has been captive bred.
