My relative had one and it was a real wuss. At 8 inches it was getting the crap kicked out of it all time, by little fish. Then one day after he was all healed up, this little 2 inch clown trigger, did his thing and bye-bye barracuda.
IMO its not worth it, they grow real fast which mean you will have to keep on upgrading your tank for it to be ok.

Hi Denny I see yur from B'ham...I used to work on a charter boat mainly dive boat out of Destin years back..The Patti Ann as well as the China doll....I am very familiar with that big old cuda off Destin, we used to call him Freight Train......There was also a heap of them off Pensacola on the San Pablo, a sunken freighter, which were also huge. BTW I live just south of Montgomery now. Have you ever gone to Aquarium Fantasies in MOntgomery, they are supposed to have alabamas largest selection of corals...And they do have a bunch of all kinds lots of neat exotic stuff as well.

Fellow Alabamian! Yeah, Destin is great - I practically grew up there. The Patti Ann sounds very familiar - was it docked in between Harbour Docks and that spot where they filmed Jaws? I was on a team for the Classic and Cobia tourneys called Land Shark - owned by a fellow attorney.
Freight Train, huh? BIG FISH. That Liberty Ship is a good dive. As for Montgomery, I don't have too much exposure to it. I'll have to check out that store, though. Thx for the info!

The PAtti Ann was docked right as you came over the bridge on the Gulf Side from Ft Walton into destin at the destin pass...Used to be called Kelly Marina years back. At one time there used to be a dive shop in the parking lot where you turned into those docks, as well as another diveshop across the street in that little strip shopping center.....
The store in MOntgomery is at the Atlanta Crossings Shopping center which is on the main intersection of the Atlanta HIway and Eastern Blvd or just across the Atlanta from the Eastdale Mall.....very easy to find......The shopping center is shaped like an L, and the place is in the middle of it.......marked with a big purple neoon sign REEF, right next to the Fox and Hound Tavern and Grille.

When I was about 11 I got bit by a small cuda on the hand while diving in Abaco in the Bahamas. If you are an avid diver you probably have experince with them (they tend to haunt you like a ghost while you study the reef). They are everywhere in the Keys and Bahamas and in more sparce populations along the Gulf Coast. I've seen a 6 foot Great Barracuda off of the sunken Liberty Ship in Destin FL - I felt he was far too interested in me (once bitten, twice shy).

ive been diving on the reef off of abaco and jesus those cudas were freaking scary! i was terrified of them! by the way, ive been wondering... when i was there i was told it is like the 3rd largest reef on earth.... i was wondering if this is true and if it had a name??? haha. thanks! alix

When i was getting scuba certified i had to jump into the ocean and put on my snorkle gear, then clear my mask and snorkle. When i opened my eyes under the water there was a 6' cuda loking at me through my snorkel mask. I did more then piss my suit. Would hate to see that in a tank.

If they're only $40; I doubt that they are true barracudas; these fish are extremely expensive to keep alive and to transport. Maybe a regional or"pet" name, like FW "sharks". Google Image it and check.
I guess they could be pacific barracuda; they're much smaller than the Great Barracuda that we're all talking about and I love to dive with. (and love to catch on light tackle, small ones are great eating too-big ones can be poisonous).

When snorkling at looe key in the keys I had a 6 ft follow me for a hr I was watching him,Then he went from like 0 to 60 and hit this fish in half about 50 ft from me after that I don't really pay no mind to them because if they want you you won't have time to react

I went to Jamaica for my honeymoon, and swam up on one guarding a rock. Im glad I thought to take off our new shiny rings.
