the astrics man himself was released from the SF Giants... he then made a plea that its not to late to change their minds...
i hope they dont resign him and NO team picks him up... hes 43 he needs to hang up the glove, bat and cleats!!!

did the team only keep him on the roster for the record?
TV money for the homerun record that SF was geting was alot im sure.He sells out their stadium for them every year even though they sucked. They will not resign him just so he can get the hit record. If you ask me the reason why he asking them to rethink it is because no one is beating down the door to sign a old/maybe indited player. Some regular fans of a team may even boycott the games.

Raises an interesting question because he's a big bat for virtually any lineup. For instance, a bat like his would definitely help a borderline contender like my tigers. Personally though, I think the distractions outweigh the benefit.
I could see the Yankees sign him. They are pretty dispicable in their pursuit of big names... or maybe the RED SOX (the new Yankees)!!

sf only keeping him to have the picture of the record in a giants jersey is bs.
i hope an al team signs him for dh. hopefully, the sox.
it would be nice to give him a ring.

If Bonds does indeed play next year, I bet it will be as a DH for the Angels, A's, or Mariners. If not, then he'll take the $ in Boston or NY.
I miss talking to Bob. :(

I don't see the Red Sox signing him for several reasons.
1. Bonds has made many very public disparaging remarks about the city of Boston and the Boston fan base. I don't see him being willing to sign to play in Boston. He has very clearly stated that he thinks Boston is a "racist city."
2. Why would the Sox want him? He is terrible in the field, so he would only be useful as a DH or off the bench. I don't see him being willing to come off the bench, and the Sox have Big Papi to DH. They don't need him.
3. Bonds is still going to want HUGE money. If the Sox are going to spend huge money this year for anyone, it will be a pitcher. Shilling's contract is up at the end of this year, Wakefield has spent too much time on the DL this year and may be finished, and Timlin, Gagne, and Lopez will have to be replaced in the bullpen. I just don't see the Sox spending money they need to use on pitching to sign an aging, unpopular bat that they don't need.

i heard today that he really wants to play for the Yankees, but they already have 2 great DHs... i agree though crims... but on the right team he might settle his attitude down... ohhh wait... we are talking about astrics man with a giant sized head (pardon the pun)... nevermind!!!

I can't see him not playing next year, reguardless of his "attitude". He is still a feared hitter in baseball. Who wouldn't want that output in their DH spot, There are teams like the Rangers who seem to love getting a bad boy and letting him play. Sosa this year, everett a couple years ago. He does sell out stadiums. I really don't see him going somewhere with a contender, but some smaller market that needs a few bucks and wants to watch a few home runs. They will pick him up.

Well MHO I hope he is done. The record is a sham, he is a juicer and i can only hope that at the absolute very least they note the record books as such.
He didn't know he was taking roids? give me a break he was bigger the last few years than he has ever been. Back in the day when he was with the pirates. I cannot honestly belive he was just training that much harder in his old (for baseball) age than he was in his prime years. This was IMO a blow to baseball in general it made the whole league look bad. (and still is)

I don't feel that he will produce for the amount of money he will demand. He played about as much as his old a$$ could this year and hit .276, 28 hrs and 66 RBI's. Hardly worth the money he will demand and the turmoil within any fans other than SF. Granted the RBI's aren't something he can really control, teams can still find a better deal on someone who will actually have a future with their given team.

I agree, but if he doesn't ask for the moon, some one will sign him. Besides it isn't about stats it is about buns in the seats. And he can still fill em.

He only needs like 35 more hits to reach 3,000 so I think some way he will find a team to play for, even at a discount.
