I did a few monds on my bio cube by making it into a refuge and was wondering if i can put base rock where the bio balls were insted of putting live rock insted of the bio balls? Can i do that? Is it better for the base rock or live rock to have a ton of holes? Is going to be for a 8 gallon oceanic bio cube.

best to use LR, base rock isnt live and adding it for that purpose may not get u the results u want.

eventually it would be live rock, but how long? who knows. basically whether you use live rock, base rock, ceramic or plastic bioballs, a wet/dry is a wet/dry and if used as one will contribute to nitrates.

I got around 9.6 LB of live rock in the main tank and a 1 inch sand bed in the main tank, so isent that enough live rock in the tank that can make the base rock into live rock? How big dos that base or live rock have to be when its in the sump/fuge?

Base rock, live rock, bio-balls, or nothing at all. It the long run it won't matter what you put in the back so long as you keep your tank clean, do regular water changes, feed appropriately, and stock your tank appropriately.
