Batten Down the Hatches, Boys...

Thought this would get more attention here rather than in the equipment board. It' a reef-discussion, anyways. So, huge snow storm blowing in twords the north east and I'm about to pee myself with worry about power outages. Already had two within my reefclub, and the storm hasn't even HIT yet. I googled Battery Powered Heaters and didn't find much. Do these exist? And if not, WHY?!
Goodness, I'd certianly think that companies would make TONS of money on this, definetly a lot more than that new power head cover for anemones. We already figured out that one on our own with the panyhose, how about making something that'll really help?

Thanks for listening to my mini-rant, so what are your views on this? Why can't I find one of these?

My suggestion is an inverter and a DEEP CYCLE battery (look in w-mart for a RV battery that says deep cycle). Keep it charged in the garage and you should have power for a while.
the reason there isnt a battery powered heater is lets say you have a 100 watt heater, typical for a 20-30 gallon tank, it would drain 4 D size batteries in under an hour (probably more like 15 minutes). Its not feasible.
I have a battery on my boat that I can take out and power my 200 watt heater and 1 power head in my 56 for a solid 24 hours (but then again the heater wont run solid for 24 hours so it'll probably last longer).
Another good tip is to wrap your tank in blankets and if you're going to space heat 1 room for the family to stay warm, make sure its the room with your tank(s). I know you have a few so that might be harder, also i've read that a kero heater isnt a good idea to run in the same room as a fishtank, maybe someone else can verify that for me tho.

Still hasn't hit. I think the news is just trying to freak me out. No, no genertor and I don't have job to save up for one. Yes, I have three tanks in three different rooms, but seriously, if something like this happened and I was hope to witness it I'd take out ALL of my critters from the other tanks and put them in the 29 in like, those little clip on plastic things that go the on the side of the tank for like betas? We don't even have a space heater.

Lucky you, crypt. Still nothing here, and I'm still on the edge of my seat.
I wold love to have a generator, my dad does, and he's in mexico. I might have to give him a call to see if I can break in and "borrow" it (meaning keep it forever lol).
