Is that an inverter type thing? I think I know what you are talking about though I really know nothing about them.

its actually a 12v pump that is hooked up to a car type battery and also has a plug that plugs into your house current so it knows when you lose power and kicks on the 12v pump

are you going to be hooking up your backup battery to the generator? because IME batteries will blow..something about the type of current. We ran a huge generator at my place of work that year all the hurricanes came through, and didnt know you could have the batteries hooked up, all the batteries that were still plugged in literally blew up.

Trickle charger on a 12v battery to keep a charge, connected to an a/c powered N/O contactor so when you have a power failure the contacts close and 12v power goes to your inverter to temperarily power your pumps!

ya know, im no smart guy but it seems to me there is no "complete powerfailure back up" solution for tanks. theres generstor but wht about those who cant or dont want to run them. there might be soem money to be made here...

Can you PM a link? I did already get the power box ordered. It will basically do the same thing, power up if the main power goes out. It was pricey but wouldn't mind having a backup backup.

I think what your talking about is a bilge pump smaller pumps can be found a bait and tackle shops I have one I use for my livewell when I go fishing and on a one 12volt deepcell battery I get over 12hours of use.
Larger 12volt bilge pumps can be found at boating stores like boatersworld and range from a 100gal per hour to over a 1000gal per hour however you can only use these if you have room in your sump. unfortunaly I don't have the room an with FAY POSSIBLE aproching Jacksonville I decided on option #2
Option #2 I just bought a 400watt inverter and wired a 12volt deepcell battery and a relay so if power goes out inverter kicks on and pumps contiue to run and if I need to I can rely on my generator.

Good luck to everyone in Florida hope no one needs to use there backup's...

I purchased a couple of battery operated pumps from Walmart for $18. They say they should run 80 hours on 2 D cell batteries. I had to use them yesterday during power outages I had through TS Fay. They worked out pretty good. I did get a little salt spray. But I cleaned up ASAP and it came off OK. They are pretty quiet too. I was suprised. Now my husband also has a live well back up for his bass tournaments!

Which section of Walmart did you find the battery operated pump?

Well, like a typical man "I didn't ask for help". I have been to a couple of different wallfarts and looked in their sporting goods depts and haven't seen them.
Still don't understand why LFS don't carry items like this.

Go to basspro.com and in the key word type "bubbles". They have a few different ones. Some with 2 hose outlets! I am sure Gander Mountain has them as well. Not sure if any of those type stores are around where you live. But you can order online! BTW I love basspro shops
I know girls are not suppose to say that. But my husband got me "hooked." He does tournaments. He caught a 10 1/2 pounder in Okeechobee last weekend. He also caught a snook! Weird to see in fresh water.
