Hi, I am so happy to find a forum dedicated to nano reefs. I am resurrecting an old Bio Cube 29 that I got for cheap. The nice thing is that it cam with the hood upgrade with 4, 32W PC lights and two beefed up cooling fans.
The Rear compartments have been modded a little…. The overflow from compartment 1 into 2 have been cut to allow better flow (I assume this makes for better surface skimming).
Anyhow my question is what to put in the back? It did not come with any filter media. I plan to put a mix of fish and coral in the tank but what to put in the filter compartments is quite the conundrum.
I have read that some people put skimmers there but do skimmers really help all that much? Will 5 gallon water changes once a week be enough for a nano?
I have also heard that some people put cheato back there, but how do you install a light without modifying the tank or scraping off the rear paint? I want the lid to still close… I though about a small submersible light but now sure if that would be enough.
Please give me recommendations for what to put in the 3 compartments. Photos are always very helpful.
