Been a while but I have new stuff for all of you :) 08/24/11

Now bare with me I just got this tank about 4 days ago and I dont got much in it yet. Today I went to go get 2 lbs of tonga LR and another 2 lbs of regular LR so once the water clears and I have my rock the way I want it ill post pics for yall
. For now I got pics of it the 1st couple of days I have had it.
In the tank right now....
- Live Sand
- Aqueon 100 watt aquarium heater
- Koralia Hydro Water Pump (Flow rate..240gph)
- Digital Thermometer
- Oceanic Biocube Mini Hydrometer
- 2 lbs of tonga lr and 2 lbs of regular lr... best part about it is the hitch hikers on them. I made sure I found some pieces with Polyps on them lol. 3 pieces or LR have 1 polyp on it.
1st pic of the tank with all lights on but super clowdy

.2nd pic from my bed with the water fully cleared up and only the moon lights on

Last pic...Front view with all the lights on and the tank fully clear

haha! Yeah im waiting for my birthday to come around on the 6th and then ill be getting a phat pay check on the 10th so inbetween those days ill be getting more tonga rock. I really like that type. At my local marine fish store it's 10 bucks A POUND! Isnt that crazy... I really liked this one piece but it was 5 pounds so i was like nah take it back haha! It's clearing up right now... in about an hour ill post pics of the LR setup. Not bad for 4.5 pounds lol. How much would be a good amount for a 14 gallon?

Got those pics for yall!! Digital camera is a lot better than my blackberry
ENJOYYY lol
Front View

The little orange polyp opening a bit!

The left side... You can see the other 2 little ones on the top rock and the very bottom rock in the middle

The right side!
4 lbs of LR is not just gonna do it lol. Ill keep yall posted on when I make changes or add something!!

well if your planning to keep coral they will multiply like crazy if u keep poking at them cause they release spores and eventually over run your coral I'm having a struggle fight them to right now a way to get rid of them is by dropping joes juice in them and aptasia x seems to work to

good thing I havent poked them or anything... Im not trying to have all those little suckers everywhere. Ill just return those 3 pieces tomorrow morning before work and get some different pieces plus some more liverock lol. Prob a bad idea to go because i KNOW im going to want more rock.

uh o! Just my luck... what do they do to your tank and how to you get rid of them?
i would try to get it soon as possible.. could prolly just use old toothbrush and scrape it off, thats what i do and seem to get them
But make sure u stay on top of them when u see them.. they spread really fast
Also might be good idea to always have some joes juice on hand, thats takes care of them too

NanoNewb I decided to go ahead and take the LR back this morning and of course like I said in my last post i was gonna be tempted to buy more so of course I did lol. I have some pictures. Idk why it looks like it so little rock in the pictures but its okay. I just didnt want to have to deal with them little anemones.

I really liked that little piece on the bottom... reminds me of honey combs cereal! Then the little cave I made. Alot of places inside were fish can chill or swim around through.

Top down view

What do yall think?

Mproctor: Fish wise... I want 2 Perc Clowns in there and I would want a fish to chill at the bottom and pop in and out at times so Id like a yashi goby paired up with a randalls pistol shrimp but good luck to me for finding that at one of my local fish stores... maybe they can order them for me but will see.
For coral- I wanna start off easy then work my way up to the hammer head coral and torch but when I do finally get my corals I want...I would say an Xenia colony and some really nice star polyps.
OH and of course a cleaner shrimp... my mom asked me if I was going to get another because she thinks they are so cute lol but I had one 2 years ago in my aquapod 12 but I had to take it down cause it was getting really expensive and I didnt have a job at the time. Soon ill go get little blue legged hermits and some turbo snails but that will prob be in about a week. My next pay check ill go get myself a nano skimmer and a legit test kit. During the day my temp stays around 79 to 80 and when i turn off the lights at night and leave the moon lights on it get down to like 76 to 77.
NanoNewb: For now, yes but ill most likely go with a better filtration system. Like I was telling Mproctor... I def am buying a nano skimmer soon. Im trying to knock out most mods before adding fish or coral. Appreciate you.. I like it alo better too. Before I left for work I had the rock i had bought just chilling in there so it bothered me so I had to rearrange before I go to work.
If yall have any suggestions on fish and coral, pleae fill free to let me know
Thanks
- Aaron

i think u could save money and pass on skimmer. i have had my tank for 2 years without one. all u gotta do is make sure to keep up on waterchanges. 2-3 gallons a week and u be good to go

Soo my tank has been up and running for about 2 weeks now so I thought today I go out and buy a legit test kit. It's called saltwater master test kit... cost me about 31 dollars... not bad. Here are my test results as of today..
High Range P.H: 8.2
Ammonia: 0-0.25
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
I dont know why my nitrate is so low... isnt it supposed to be high? like around 20 to 40 ppm?
My rock is actually starting to grow green hair algae :)
Oh but my hydrometer reads very high... im waiting for some water to evaporate so I can add some fresh water I got from my saltwater fish store to lower it to normal level

its very very little... what does that mean? am i leaving the lights on to long during the day? hmm I just actually might do that tonight, thanks :)

ur tank is still empty huh like u dont have a CUC or nothin yet? GHA feeds off nutruents in the water, mainly phophates! When u get a CUC and stuff they will hopefully eat the crud!

o okay legit! That's what I thought would happen... when I get my tank to a normal Salinity like 1.024 to 1.025, is that when I could go ahead and grab a good CUC for my little tank? You are being very helpful! Thanks
That's why i love these threads!!

Since you dont have any livestock in ur tank other than the hitchhikers, it dosent really matter...... but when you do get some livestock remember to bring down ur salinity slowly over a couple dayz as not to shock anything!
Id test ur water again before you go get anything just to make sure! LOL
i was really nervious the 1st time i got any coral! Just take your time in this hobby and youll do alright and if it dont feel right, you can always go back and get something else that im sure youll love and want in ur tank!
Dont forget the snails man! Good part of any CUC....this i did not know and i got a lot of hermits! They are a lil touchy and imo require a somewat stable tank!
Id test ur water for the next 3-5 days just to make sure! everyday and make sure it dont change...write it down if u have to.
