Before you buy/fill

I know how easy it is to get excited, and try to get what you need on a budget, but I would like everyone looking into starting a tank to PLEASE SAVE YOUR $$ FOR ONE MORE MONTH AND JUST BUY A PREDRILLED. I Gurantee you if you are in the hobby long enough you will kick yourself later if you did not. Just speaking from my own experience.

Do you know how much a 75g w/ built in overflows would cost though? I have a 75g sitting here empty and I am wondering if I want to just sell it off before I pick up some overflows and just get a reef ready
BTW I don't smile lol

pre-drilled? for what? sorry, clueless here. I've tanks for about 7-8 years, and i'm happy with what I have.
We thought of getting an 8ft tank...but man, 8ft is LONG!! I have the wall space...but don't really want something that long in my living room. lol.

what you could do is find some one in your area that can drill your tank for you.. just check your local reef club.

They have the hole saw bits at any home improvement store, they are $15 for a 1.5", I have a glass tank and it worked fine, just dont put a lot of pressure on it, just let it cut it way though with the weight of the drill, probably about 2 minutes per hole. If you had an acrylic tank I'm sure it would drill out faster.

I don't want to deal with it plus I think the tank is like 5+ years old so I would be worried about it. Local glass shops said about $100 and for that I would rather just sell this one cheap and buy a predrilled. At least then I wouldn't have to worry as much about it cracking or the tank itself leaking.

ok , my 55 All Glass cheapo normal 55 $90, 55 predrilled with over flows and some of the plumbing $220.
My all Glass was supposed to only have tempered glass bottum, well when they where drilling it today we found out the sides where temptered to, so . . . $90 down the toilet, now i go back to buy a predrilled. Nice Glass folks didn't charge, but my buddy who used to own a LFS here looked at it and agreed it was tempered the way it broke, :0) Suppose I would like to run it by anyone else who might have had this happen.

Likely. Tempered doesn't crack, it shatters.

Agree. The only way to do a reef. I even drill my nanos so sump can be used. Overflows? Never had one and don't think I would want to spare the room, hassel or cash.
