Do you think it would be safe/smart to drill an older tank? I am looking at drilling my 75g but I know it is an older tank. The bottom says its tempered but I would be drilling the back.

NO .
My tank specifically said " the bottum of this tank is tempered glass for structural integrity and should not be drilled. " the sides where not supposed to be tempered of the back, scroll up a little and look at the pick. . . , Also LFS here custome orders tanks not tempered with intent to drill, and some of them still come tempered, don't think i would risk it. . . , Acrylic is a different story though.

ahhh . . . big ugly over flow box that when it loses siphen during pwr outage, then power comes back on floods your house, or what you mentioned earlier, just sell it and get a drilled, look in photo post, chekc out the 65 drilled with overflow, plumbing, pump, ect all for like $450 after tax. and tax is like 10% here. or, my LFS will drill the tank for you. . . guranteed. wish i had taken that rout, would have to be buying a new tank today woulda been them buying it for me :0).

I would buy a predrilled and just sell this one if it was less than $200 but I can't justify spending over $200 on a tank when I already have one that still has nothing but at stand right now.

Save up for a larger pre drilled tank. I am going to be saving for the next year or so for a 240 sps tank, OR I am going to start a marine fish hatchery. The hatchery is going to be a lot more profitable. :D

I don't have room for anything bigger than a 75g otherwise I would.
