The return pump chamber is where you will notice evaporation. Do you have an automatic top off?

Yes sir! But I think the power head that is being used is going bad so I better get ready to replace it. What brand power head are you using with your ato?

And it has been working pretty solidly for you? The penguin I am using has only worked for two months.
Well I looked it up and saw:
This unique, one-of-a-kind dosing pump is designed to water up to 30" high
The 30" limit may be a problem for me right now since I am not using a shelf in the cabinet.

Yup. The only thing is you have to rig and intake hose also. It doesn't sit in your top off water container. I took an airline hose and put a pc. of that hard tube they use for undegravel filter lifts on it. Stick the hard tube into the container and it works fine. Like this.

Nice. I see you are using a large jug too. I guess you get a lot of evaporation too from using the pond netting canopy. Why do you have two float switches? Is one used as a safety mechanism so the ato doesn't just start pumping all the fresh water into the tank?

One starts and stops the pump for regular water addition. The other shuts the pump off if the water level ever gets too high. I was evaloprating about 2 gallons a week in the winter with the metal halides. Gone down to about 1 gallon per week in the winter with the LED's.

Sounds good. Two gallons a week sounds about right for me too. Now it's time to sit back and hopefully enjoy watching some corals grow! It seems that I have been tinkering with this tank for 6 months now!
Now I will be tinkering with the other tank. I am looking into getting a new skimmer to put into the sump.

Spanko, I knew you were going to say that and that is so true.
Slice, I have not forgotten about you!
