The suspension is finally over and Carmelo Anthony is cleared for take-off.
Monday in Denver the Nugs will face the Grizzlies where Melo and A.I. will finally take the floor together for the first time since Iverson came to Denver shortly following Carmelo Anthony's suspension for his role in the "brawl at the Garden" 15 games ago.
The nay-sayers insisting that 2 of the most explosive players in the NBA cannot effectively co-exist on the same team and that they will in effect "cancel one another out". HA! Hogwash. These two guys are so excited to get down to business together they're both grinning ear to ear in anticipation for what promisses to be the most lethal duo the NBA has seen in years.
So raise your seat trays and buckle your seat belts because the world is about to bear witness to what promisses to be the most exciting team the NBA has seen in years. Prepare for launch!

It should be lots of fun to watch...to bad neither will get the # of touches they will want, I think it'll work for a few weeks then when the realization sinks in that they are both me style players the honeymoon will end. The only good fit for Iverson was MN with Garnett, who would have been happy to be the number 2 guy. I don't think you can have 2 1's on the floor at the same time without someones fragile ego suffering.
Even with Iverson the Nuggets aren't in the same catagory as Phoenix or the Mavs in terms of excitement.

nothing against what you said. i am excited to watch. but i don't think it will last. AI needs his spot light and so does Anthony. it will probably last this year and then i think down hill. i hope not, but too big of egos

Jmick, I agree with your last comment. I find the Suns and Mavs much more exciting to watch. Personally, I am rooting for the Suns to take it all and for Nash to get his 3rd MVP award. The guy is just amazing.
I am just glad Iverson is out of Philly. I was tired of hearing about him.

How exactly can you say the Suns or Mavs are much more exciting to watch than the "new" Nuggets when you havent even seen the "new" Nuggets play yet :notsure:
Suns or Mavs will probably still be better teams than the Nuggets but noone in the NBA has the 1-2 punch on offense that the Nuggets now have

I'll take Josh Howard and Dirk over AI and Melo any day of the week.

Good luck with that. I'll take Melo's clutch shooting at end of games for a win over Dirk anyday

Melo and AI- 61.1ppg 8.3reb 11.6 ass. 3.6 st .5 bl.
Dirk and Josh-44.7ppg 16.7reb. 5.1 ass. 2.0 st. 1.7 blocks
Dirk and Howard have a slightly better fg%(48 to about 46% because of Iverson's 43%) but overall, I doubt many if ANY, would take those 2 over Melo and AI at least as far as ON court production is concerned. Melo was the best and most consistent by far of any offensive player when he was suspended. Dirk has had 12 games in 41 scoring 21points or less, Melo had only 2 games under 24 points in 22 games and 1 of those he was ejected just after halftime.
The supporting cast is weak but Melo and AI are the best 2 offensive players on the same team since Kobe and Shaq. Either 1 seperately were and would have averaged 30 per game. Neither Dirk nor Howard could do that. Dirk only outscored Melo by .1 a game last year and Melo has clearly gotten better where Dirk has already peaked.

but those number you gave had melo and ai on separate teams when they are the ones who take all the shots, last time i checked they havent played together yet and dirk and howard have been playing together for how long?

They wont average 61 a game together i doubt but i would be amazed if they only averaged 45 a game combined. I'd guess they will average about 53-55 a game combined with them alternating who leads in scoring on a game by game basis.
Taking away off the court issues and personal feelings about them, Melo and AI are clearly 2 of the 5 best scorers in the league. Noone could possibly say that about Howard. No matter what the situation, Howard could not average over 30 a game like Melo or AI are clearly capable of. Dirk is a very good offensive player(probably top5-7) but i dont think offensively he is as good as MElo or AI and Howard clearly isnt.

Dirk is less of a big man than Melo regardless of height. Melo is a VERY good post player, Dirk is definitely soft around the basket and looks to fade away and shoot rather than take it strong to the bucket and get fouled. Melo draws more fouls in the post and shoots more FT's than Dirk.

any way i think youll have your hands full tryin to win the divsion let alone thinkin you have the greatest team since the michael jordan bulls

Who said anything about them being great much less the Jordan Bulls? :notsure: They have a great 1-2 scoring punch but littlr else outside of Camby's defense.
Our supporting cast is very weak and outside of Smith, we have noone else who can score. They certainly can be very dangerous though. Melo and AI will definitely cause matchup problems for some teams and do alot of damage. That being said, this isnt college and you cant win with 2 players, its hard enough to win with a great starting 5 without a very good bench as well.
The Nuggets can definitely catch Utah and win the division and hopefully win a 1st round series but i doubt they will go farther than that with the supporting cast they have.
If Kenyon Martin could come back next year and be healthy and even remotely close to the player he was and Smith continues to improve, then the Nuggets may be able to make a run at the West but not this year.
Too bad Hak's gotta be the one to take the beating from his buddy Melo tonight. Actually though, could be tough for Melo if Memphis is smart. Hak guarded Melo for the 4th quarter the last time they played and played great defense against him. Hak's not playing much now with Gasol back though so Memphis will probably leave the only guy they have that can guard Melo on the bench most of the night.

I like watching the Suns play and find them exciting to watch because they play like a team (and darn well at it!). Anthony and Iverson are "me players" who are going to want the ball all the time for themselves. I don't find that exciting or interesting.

HATER!!!

Melo is hardly a "me" player. He was a great teammate at Cuse and has been so far in the NBA. He had some problems at the Olympics but that was about just getting on the court not taking all the shots. At the World Games over the summer he dominated and was the best player without 1 single problem. Just because he averages 31.6 a game doesnt make him a "me 1st" player. He was the only scorer on the team and therefore took most of the shots but at no time for Denver has Melo complained about shots or getting the ball. He passes MUCH more than Amare or Marion, those guys are truly black holes on offense.
Melo is a great teamate and a proven winner. Noone who has ever played with him at Cuse or Denver has ever said otherwise. AI, thats a different story.

Alright, you're right. I liked Denver until they acquired Iverson. I think I was being too hard on Anthony due to a negative association I have with Iverson now being on the team. I lived with his crap here in Philly for too many years, so when I heard Iverson's name, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

huh? and huh :help:
I assure you, Denver is still Melo's team. If AI is smart(doubtful) he will realize this is his last chance at a title and be Melo's sidekick. If not, and things go sour, i GUARANTEE that AI gets the boot from Denver not Melo.
