Berlin Classic skimmer problem

Hi all,
i have just bought this skimmer with EHEIM 1060 pump from second hand, but pretty much new. I cannot get this thing working. I see a lot of bubbles, but nothing green is comming up to the collection cup. I tried to remove and clean the venturi, but nothing helped. There are bubbles in the inner tube, in the middle tube and none in the outer tube. That's how it should be. Another question. There is a piece of acrilic built in the inner tube. IMO it prent the water to swirl. In what part of the inner tube it should be: in the upper or lower. Now it's in the lower part. Any tips on operating this skimmer.

Been using one of these for 5 years now. The "cross-piece" should be on the bottom of the inner acrylic tube. Break in can be tough on this skimmer IME. I clean it weekly and takes a good 24 hours before foam gets going good again. Hot water (boiling usually, purified of course) with a syringe down the air intake hose monthly helps. Also, where water enters the skimmer, there is a cone-shaped piece of plastic to increase velocity of water entering the skimmer and contribute to venturi effect. Make sure this is not obstructed as well. Unsure of specs on your eheim pump, needs to be at least 500 gph. E-mail nicholas@wcc.net if any other questions, Fes
