best camera for around $500

i was told the the camera is broken because no picture on the lcd before i tak ethe picture. is it broken?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question as I'm new to the SLR cameras, but can you change lenses on the Nikon d40 and the Cannon Rebel XT 8MP ? I'm just trying to figure out how much better and more upgradeable these are from high quality Point and Shoot cameras.

No. Its not broken because of that. Most SLR cameras don't show a picture before you take it.

No. You can't use Nikon lenses with a Canon camera or the other way around. The lenses are built to use their own brand of camera. However, there are lenses that are made to be used with any camera. Promaster is a brand that makes those lenses.

No, I meant can you get different lenses for each of these models not put a Nikon lens on a Canon camera. Can you have more than one lens for these models?

how can i transfer the files from digital professional to photobucket or in any files?
