I was wondering what would be best for a 12 gallon cleaning crew. Right now I have
5 snails
1 sandsifting star
But I still have some algae on the rocks. Is there anything that will help eat it? The snails do but not all of it.

you might want to add a couple of crabs.Mine spend all day scraping the rock of alalge and eating it.

The sand sifting star is going to eat all the things in your sand bed that help with the clean up and then most likely starve to death. They need large tanks and lots of sand in order to survive.
What kind of snails do you have?
An astrea or two, 3-4 nassarius snails(The really small species), and some bristle worms will probably provide plenty of clean up for a 12 gallon without the worry of them starving each other and polluting your tank.

Emerald crabs have a tendency to eat ornamental shrimp and can even eat sleeping fish. They also get a bit too big for 12 gallon imo. Mixing hermits and snails typically ends up leaving behind some dead snails. If one manages to get into a nook and rot it will quickly foul a 12 gallon, so keep a close eye on that if you mix hermits and snails.

Blue leg hermit crabs eat anything. Leftover food, algae, waste, ect. They clean your coral without hurting it.
I have 5-10, and my rocks improve in a day. I needed to get more snails.
