Best Filter for a 55 Gallon

I've heard 100 opinions as to what filter I should get for my 55 gallon fish-only tank. What do you guys think is the best for a low price? Anything between $50-150. Something with a canister?

Live rock and sand are the best filters. Get a skimmer, and a small HOB filter (for running carbon every once and a while)

Could not agree more. The only thing I would add is a "good" skimmer (because many are junk) and a lot of water movement (either from powerheads or closed loop).

I agree 100%. Remora skimmers are great and low maintenance. A deep sand bed is good to have about 3" +

what about adding a fuge to a fowlr tank. my lfs said that a fuge wont help a fowlr tank because the bio-load is too much for it to handle. any thoughts?
