Based on your $400 limit: Rhinopias Scorpion, Mystery Wrasse, an Anglerfish, and maybe even a pair of some of ORA's "different" clowns. i.e. The Picasso variation! Just my two cents!

If I were to spend that much on fish it would without a doubt either be a black tang or a Hawaiian flame wrasse pair.

I vote the queen!!! Very impressive fish, I'd LOVE to have her in my tank. Go for it! Your wife will absolutely adore it!

I would get a croshatch trigger(remove the niger) , a clarion and an emperor though eventually you may have to get a larger tank to host these two angels at adult stage.

and virtually none that survive captivity. Those that do are always kept in a large reef aquarium where they can graze the livestock.

My three favorite large angels are the french, passer (king), and queen. All three of these have very different juvi colorations. Juvi french angels are much harder to find, though. Passer angels tend to be very aggressive, I've been told. And I would only add one angel. You can probably have two in a tank your size, except that you already have a few large fish in there. This, again, is just my opinion. But I would either remove the cowfish or get a peaceful angel such as the black angel or blue angel. If whatever angel you get decides to pick on it, the cowfish could release toxic venom that will kill everything in your tank.

I didn't mean pick on the corals but eat/sustain themselves from the tank initially before they begin to feed. thats hard to do in all but reef aquariums. If you got one that was already feeding well and/or easy you got luckier than most. Red sea versions are suppose to be more hardy but they are one of the more difficult angels to keep.

I like the idea of the large angel...I would pick either a girdled (majestic) or queen...then again, an eel of some sort would probably be good, too but just a smaller one that cant eat the smaller fish.

For $400 do both (with change). eels are either crustascean or fish eaters so get one of the crustascean eaters. you need a closed canopy of lid with some weight on it as they are known as escape artist. unless you find them crispy they sometimes survive it.
