Best, Most Sure Fire Way Of Removing Velvet From System?

So after a out break of ick lead to velvet and eye infections which killed off all my beautiful lionfish I have a empty reef tank and I am afraid of this happening again...
What is the best and most sure fire way of getting all the parasites out of my system for good? DO I have to leave it fishless for 6-8 weeks like with ick or is there another way?

i dont know any other way.but 5-6 weeks should do it.this is why i run a qt full time.i have 4 fish in mine now.when i got the fish they all looked perfect.after a week my angel had lympho on his lips and the hippo tang showed ich.now two weeks the lympho is gone and no sign of ich .two more weeks in hypo then i will add them to the dt after i take a week to raise the salt.sure beats looking at an empty dt.
